Player Class Advice :
New players to the game continually ask about obtaining weapons, and changing
classes.
To CHANGE CLASSES in game, the Default key is Comma (,).
To CHANGE TEAMS in game, the Default key is Period (.).
Team and class changes can only happen ONCE every round, so if you have changed already, you cannot do so again until the round ends.
Commander/Cell Leader
The commander and cell leader's purpose is to point their troops in the right direction, literally speaking. The manual does a good job of explaining how to set waypoints and how to set objectives to attack or defend, so this is not covered here. One thing to note regarding the command menu, you activate the command menu by pressing "G" (Default). You then scroll through the commands with the Mouse wheel, and SELECT one using the Fire key (Default: "Mouse 1").
You should always have an objective set for your team to be carrying out. When no objectives are set, your team will have no direction.
Note: On some maps, eg. ins_baghdad, there are more than 3 objectives. If this is the case some may be hidden from the initial command list. To see them, simply select another objective, then select the desired objective. This is most commonly found when attacking Charlie as an Insurgent on baghdad.
Commander Responsibilities:
|
 |
Talk, Talk, Talk:
As a Commander you should be CONSTANTLY directing your troops over voice chat. I would go so far as to say you CANNOT be an effective commander without using a microphone. Be aware of your surroundings, and let your squad know of your plans. You can't just send them headlong into enemy fire, you may have to direct them to grenade an enemy position, or to watch for flanking enemies.
Know Your Maps and Their Objectives:
If you are a budding Commander, spend some time making a game in single player and LEARN all the objectives for each map, and the different routes you can take to get to them. This is VERY important; if one route is heavily defended, often taking another path will allow you to complete your objective much easier, or even flank the defenders to bring the rest of your team through. It is the commander's job to lead and direct these flanking maneuvers.
|
Reinforcement Waves & Objectives:
A good Commander should also be aware of the current reinforcement pool and how many reinforcement waves are remaining. Reinforcement waves INCREASE as objectives are captured, so this is why you need to capture those objectives as soon as possible!
Smoke Grenades:
Commanders and Cell Leaders are equipped with Smoke Grenades. Smoke grenades are extremely useful in confusing covering fire from the enemy, so use them often and use them smart as cover for your squad! The best use for smoke is to get your team safely to a flanking position, or to get them to an objective that is heavily guarded from one route.
|
| Support Class: |
Suppressive Fire:
The Support classes have a lot of firepower at their disposal and are unique in that they can lay down fire for an extensive period of time. So how can this be used appropriately? This is certainly not a class that should be wasted making risky runs at forward objectives- this is a class central to team SURVIVAL. The Support class lying prone with a Bipod setup can stave off enemy aggressors in a position for a VERY long time- and if they have adequate cover they can be even harder to oust.
If an enemy position is causing your men grief as they move to their objectives, have Support setup behind cover and CONTINUALLY fire on their position. NOTE: Support classes should not hold down fire and waste ammunition, but use CONTROLLED bursts so that they are actually firing on the enemies. This threat of being under fire will force them to take cover, give your teammates the time they need to flank or get past the hostile area.
Similarly, the Support class is the BEST class to use when wishing to 'Hold' a long area. Situations that come to mind are the alley in Haditha, the streets in Almaden, the alleys and rooftops in Baghdad, Objective Charlie on Ramadi, etc. Any time there is an open area that needs covering, the Support class can do what no other two classes can do together, and for much longer. Use those classes effectively.
Smoke Grenades:
The Support class is the only other class than the commander equipped with Smoke Grenades. Use these to further provide cover for your team when they are moving across hostile areas, or to defend your position if it is under attack whilst you continue to suppress. These should not be wasted though, as they can totally change the course of a battle if the enemy is heavily dug-in and need to be flanked.
